Philadelphia School District Superintendent Arlene Ackerman

Arleme Ackerman appeared on Praise 103.9's Praise In The City, a radio talkshow that airs Saturday mornings from 6am to 8am with host Tiffany Bacon, for discussion about the twists and turns of education in Philadelphia, PA.

Listen to the Whole Interview

Arlene Ackerman discusses her five year strategic plan for school reform, called Imagine 2014, as well as the opening of the Parent and Community Resource Center

She also makes note of the lack of qualified teachers, even stating that students have come up to her asking 'why can't [they] have good teachers?' Ackerman submits, that meassures are being done to bring in new teachers, and programs are being set up, to help those that want to teach, be able to get the proper certification.

However, teachers are only one of the issues that need to be resolved........Currently 85 schools are failing, according to Arlene Ackerman, and two of them will be closed down. Gilliespie Middle School and William Penn High School
